The hormone used in this diet plan is the synthetic form of the Human Chorionic Gonadotropin hormones. The HCG hormones are produced by the placenta. Thus it is in great levels during women's pregnancy. The primary action of the HCG is to help with hunger during the low calorie diet. Your stored fats are used up for energy use in the body. This then results to reduction of weight due to metabolism of reserved and unused fats.

The HCG diet has four phases to better carry out the slimming effects. This phase was added by Trudeau in the diet plan. The first phase is the cleansing phase that includes colonics. The first phase takes place in the first two days of the diet. These days serve as "loading" days in which you literally devour on food with very high levels fat. The reasons for this phase it to prepare the system fro metabolism of extra fat calories. Temptations during the first week of the diet are inevitable so this phase serves as an adjustment period for you.

The second phase begins with the intake of the HCG either through drops, capsules or shots. The oral drops are more convenient compared to the HCG shots because it can be given sublingually. it is taken at least 20 minutes before you eat. The HCG shots on the other hand are not that convenient since it can only be given in an HCG clinic with a doctor or nutritionist present. And it should be properly given to avoid complications such as bleeding or blood clots. This phase can last up to the 20 to 40 days depending on the amount of weight you wish to lose. And be sure to follow the specific HCG diet plan. Proper compliance to the dosage and order of the doctor is necessary while taking the HCG hormones either by shot or drops.

The third phase is otherwise known as the maintenance phase that can last up to 3 weeks before doing another "round". You have to go back to the first phase and add one week to phase three every time it is done. The fourth phase is the last phase in which you will have to maintain your figure after the weight loss. This will help you to adjust with the reset metabolism of your body and with the new figure you have.

The HCG diet may include phases but they are not hard to follow along with the other instructions needed in this diet. One of which is the physical examination prior to the introduction of the hormones. This exam will include blood tests to check if your body is ready to handle the demands of the HCG diet. The exams are also effective in determining conditions or medications that may interact with the low calorie diet.

While in the HCG diet, remember to follow the specific low calorie diet. No heavy exercise is necessary as well. But staying fit while shedding fats away is the best approach to get a more toned body.
