Feel Light And Be Light Thru The HCG Diet

Being overweight is not just feeling heavy physically but also emotionally. That is why there are a number of obese individuals who feel depressed because of their weight problems. They feel as if they are stuck with their weights and do not know how to deal with it. But as hopeless as this problem may seem to them, there is always a silver lining. There is still hope for a problem such as this. And the fastest solution to obesity is losing weight thru a diet program.

One of the diet programs available in the market is the HCG diet. The HCG diet is helpful in weight loss for obese individuals either male or female. This diet plan works effectively without the need to engage in heavy exercise. This is due to the hormone that helps in burning up of excess fat reserves. That hormone is called the Human Chorionic Gonadotropin hormone. This hormone produced by the placenta helps in the reduction of weight thru internal metabolism of stored fats and muscles.

Dr. Simeons, a British doctor, was the one who tested and established the HCG diet. He discovered the HCG diet in the 1950's. But the HCG diet grew popularity when a book entitled "The Weight Loss Cure They Don't Want You To Know About" was released which includes the concept of the HCG diet. That book written by Andrew Trudeau along with infomercials led to the fame of the HCG diet.

The HCG diet according to the book has four phases. Each phase have specific purpose in the weight-loss process and diet requirements. The first phase takes two days which are called the "loading" days. These days specifically require a diet of very high fat that will include avocados, cheeses, heavy cream sauces, and etc. This very high fat diet is to help the body be alert in the metabolism of excess fats and calories. It is also to help relieve feelings of hunger or discomfort during the first week of treatment.

The second phase is when the HCG hormone treatment starts. This hormone treatment is either of injection form or oral drops form. The HCG shots are of higher dose and can only be given in an HCG clinic. This is to avoid problems such as bleeding and blood clots to occur. For the oral HCG drops, the drops should be taken at least 20 minutes before a meal. The second phase takes 20 or 40 days to complete but this depends on how much weight needs to be reduced. However, the diet continues for another three days.

Along with the HCG hormone treatment is the strict diet requirement of 500 calories. This very low calorie diet is usually composed of fish, vegetables, and fruits. This diet requirement is discussed in a short overview by Dr. Simeons entitled "Pounds and Inches" and some HCG diet recipes for phase 2. Some of the fruit choices in the second phase are apples, oranges, half of a grapefruit, or a handful of strawberries. In addition, the vegetables you can take are spinach, chard, lettuce, beet greens, broccoli, tomatoes, celery, fennel, yellow or red onion, cucumbers, asparagus, or cabbage.

The third phase or also known as the maintenance phase takes three weeks to complete. Then another "round" of the treatment begins and when the third phase is done, one week is added. The diet in the third phase is not similar to the second but is notably lifted in calorie restriction and food choices instead. But all starch and sugar are still avoided in this phase.

The last of the HCG diet is when the treatment is completed. This is the most challenging phase as most dieters regain the weight they have lost in this phase. Factors such as reset metabolism and changes in lifestyle are pointed out as the cause of such rebound weight gain. These however can be prevented thru strict compliance to the diet.

Precautionary measures and strict compliance are important when taking on the HCG diet. One of the precautionary measures is having a physical examination prior to the introduction of the HCG diet. This will include blood tests and other exams to ensure that your body is fit for the diet program. This step is important since the HCG hormone intervenes with the internal metabolism of fats. Possible drug interaction can also be prevented when a physical examination is done.

Strict compliance is important if you really are determined to lose weight. Think of the diseases that you can prevent just by chopping your weights off and keeping in shape.
